Florence HOWES (no middle name and not to be confused with H3).
Flo was born in 1920. She married Doug McDonald. They had a farm at Pungarehu near Cape Egmont and opposite the Parihaka Pa. There were 5 in their family – John 1950, Ian 1951 – 2011, Jan 1954, Christine 1955, Bill 1959.
Flo also was a teacher. She taught at the local Pungarehu School where the Barrett boys All Blacks attended. She played golf and got a ‘hole in one’.
The family were very proud Taranaki rugby supporters.
After retiring, they moved to Oakura Beach where Flo died in 1987.
Ian died suddenly in 2011 just after watching his favourite Taranaki rugby team play. His final song was Jim Reeves ‘Nightwatch’. Well worth a listen.
